The lift up and build under process
The process begins with an assessment of the property's existing structure, foundations and suitability for raising. Detailed building plans are prepared, structural engineering requirements are established, and the necessary building approvals are obtained.
Careful planning at the beginning of your project ensures the proposed new ground floor meets the required building standards and provides a functional layout suited to your needs. Once the necessary approvals are in place, preparations begin to safely raise the existing house. Services such as electricity, plumbing and drainage are disconnected or modified as required, and specialist house-raising contractors use hydraulic jacks and temporary supports to gradually lift the home to its engineered height. New footings, structural supports and foundations are then installed to permanently support the raised house. This creates the space underneath for the construction of an entirely new ground floor.
With the house securely positioned on its new supports, construction of the lower level can begin. Depending on the approved design, this may involve installing a concrete slab, framing internal and external walls, fitting windows and doors, and completing plumbing and electrical work.
New bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, living areas or entertaining spaces can be incorporated, along with an internal staircase connecting both levels. The final stages include plastering, flooring, painting, fixtures and fittings, followed by the required inspections and certification. The result is a transformed home with additional living space while retaining much of the character of the original house.
